And I have zero doubt that you, like me, will aim for gold stars each and every time.Īnd speaking of graphics, if you’ve played any of Cateia Games’ other “…Tales” then you’ve played these game too – after all they’re esssetially all the same game format with new skins and a new story. Though both are so addictive that you won’t need ANY story to keep you coming back for more – especially if you’re playing in the timed modes, where completed levels are rewarded with stars: bronze, silver and gold. But that didn’t effect my enjoyment of the game itself after all, you don’t really need to sit through the cutscenes to competely enjoy these titles – they just add that extra story element to keep you invested in the games. Graphically both Kingdom Tales and its seauel look good when you’re playing, however I did note that the cutscenes in the first game looked a tad blurry, as if they’d been upscaled to fit the Switch’s wider screen and thus lost some resolution. And if you are playing on a time-limited level you really need that extra control. It is possible to play this way but I never quite felt as in control as I did using the touchscreen. Like the previous “…Tales” games both titles are best suited to being played in handheld mode, the touchscreen controls working much better than the use of the right Joy-con (the only other control option) to move a mouse around the screen. However if you’re a masochist you can actually play Kingdom Tales 2 in an EXTREME timed mode, making things all the more difficult! Why you’d do that is beyond me… stick to rleaxed mode. Surprisingly, the REMOVAL of those limits is what makes both Kingdom Tales and its sequel a lot more fun to play than similar-style games. There’s also the added aspect of time limits – unless you decide to play in the relaxed mode, which removes time limits and opens the game up somewhat to less experienced strategy game players, who can concentrate on just progressing through the levels rather than worrying about the in and outs of how to build and collect as efficiently as possible within the alotted time. Each level increasing the amount of gold and buildings you need to build/collect. There’s a very good reason this review is for both Kingsom Tales games (besides one being a sequel to the other), they’re essentially the exact same game just under two different skins! Both games are construction and management simulation – you build homes, harvest food, collect “taxes” and repeat. But watch out! The greedy count Ohli and his spies never sleep! My thoughts: Join the expedition of the King’s builders and architects on their noble quest! Explore, gather, produce, trade, build, repair and work for the well-being of all of your subjects. Until one day their secret love was revealed! The king was furious. However, in absolute secret, young blacksmith Finn and Dahla were in love. Noble lords from many kingdoms begged the King for his daughter’s hand. His daughter Dahla was the most beautiful and clever in the land. Along your journey, you will meet druids, forest fairies, trolls, dragons and other exciting creatures while racing against the clock to complete tasks in this gorgeous and fun time management / strategy game!Ī long time ago, there was a kingdom ruled by a fair king, Arnor. The latter two are more traditional point and click titles, whereas the former are more construction and management simulation games which also applies to the Kingdom Tales and its sequel…Īn ancient prophecy proclaims “One day, the mighty dragons will seek new territory to claim as their own!” The day has come! The prophecy has been fulfilled! Now, only the most courageous and just of leaders will be able forge a friendship between mankind and dragons! Step into the role of the steadfast and altruistic leader who’s quests is to ensure the safety and prosperity of all people and creatures in the kingdom! In Kingdom Tales you will explore the land, gather, produce and trade resources, build and repair subjects homes and community structures, and work to increase your subjects level of happiness. Developer Cateia Games and publisher Ocean Media have made something of a career of releasing point and click strategy game after point and click strategy game on the Nintendo Switch – games like Cavemen Tales, Country Tales, Tales from Dragon Mountain and Where Angels Cry.
